CPRE's Rural Affordable Housing campaign

A healthy home is the foundation for a decent life, but our broken housing system is having a devastating impact on life in the countryside, draining rural areas of skills, economic activity, and crucial public services. CPRE research shows that a combination of stagnating wages, rising rents and a proliferation of second homes and short-term lets has intensified the rural affordable housing crisis.

Homelessness has leapt 40% in just five years in our countryside, and over 300,000 people are still waiting for a home in rural England. At current construction rates, it will take 93 years to clear that list.

This is why CPRE is calling for this crisis to be addressed urgently and we need your support to ensure that the government commits to tackling the lack of truly affordable homes in rural England.

If you are an MP, Peer, Mayor, local government representative, or local government party group, please sign up to CPRE’s Affordable Housing Pledge below.
