Let's get Parliament smart on solar
We need a rapid transition to clean power to tackle the climate emergency - and solar power is a key part of the energy mix. But right now, a vast amount of potential space for solar is being wasted – our rooftops. And we’re faced with the threat of mega solar damaging natural landscapes and farmland.
CPRE is calling for a change to deliver the promised rooftop revolution – and we need widespread support across Parliament to make this a reality.
CPRE’s new Parliamentary Rooftop Solar Champions support our asks to:
1. Deliver on plans for solar panels to be fitted on all new-build homes in England by 2027, including affordable and social rent homes
2. Put an end to ‘wasted space’ and retrofit all suitable domestic, commercial and public buildings with rooftop solar, particularly warehouses and car parks
3. Strengthen policy so that solar development is not put on our most beautiful and tranquil landscapes or our best and most versatile farmland

"The campaign is supported by people across political divides and it’s great that the government has decided to take forward the principles in the Future Homes Standard. Now, it’s really important that housing developers do the right thing by including solar on all newbuilds. We’ll need to go further by using commercial development and retrofit too" - Max Wilkinson MP, Solar Champion
