The government has given the go ahead to a new coal mine in Cumbria – the first of its kind in over 30 years.
In the midst of a climate emergency, the greatest threat our countryside has ever faced, this is an outrageous move and flies in the face of the ambition we need to solve this crisis.
We can still stop this - but we don’t have long.
Before the local council gives its final stamp of approval, the Secretary of State Robert Jenrick still has a chance to step in and stop the mine going ahead. He claims it is a local issue so doesn’t want to get involved, but we all know burning fossil fuels has global impacts.
It may be a matter of days before it’s too late, so we must act now. If we flood the Secretary of State’s office with emails, he’ll have to listen.
Will you tell Robert Jenrick to stop this coal mine?
